Hadassah-Israel Levonah & Vered Hasharon Chapters;   Jerusalem Day Virtual Tour
Sunday May 9th,  by Marion Stone

The Levonah and Vered Hasharon Chapters of Hadassah-Israel arranged a virtual tour in the area of Jerusalem’s old city, brilliantly guided by master educator Nachliel Selevan, which was shown via zoom on 9th May 2021.

Zenia Cohen from the Levonah Chapter welcomed the audience and thanked everyone who sponsored the event. They were:

Rita Katz Galia Sprung Sheila Brody
Bobbi Verdriger Francine Ex Rebecca Brindza
Rose Scharlat Roni Kohanim Marcey Rubin
Harriet Spitzer  Wendy Perelmutter Jean Kruger

Both Chapters are raising funds for the purchase of a Cone Beam Portable CT device for  providing clear visual imaging while  performing cochlear implant surgery.

Ronda Israel, Programming Chair for the Levonah Chapter, gave an introductory explanation about Jerusalem Day, dating back to Israel’s successful, but unfortunately short-lived regaining of The Temple Mount during the six day war in 1967.

Then Nahliel Selevan, a master educator and tour guide gave us a different kind of tour of the old city, using google imaging and explaining the history and significance of what can be seen from the gates at points north, south, east and west of the city. He certainly gave us a novel perspective to what most people see when touring the old city, by taking us off the beaten path, and showing us something of the diversity of societies to be found in Jerusalem today.

I think it is safe to say that this was a most rewarding evening.
