On Friday, April 20, Anabe Park in Modiin was the site of the first annual Dor L’Dor Walkathon sponsored by Hadassah-Israel.  Ten chapters from throughout the country took part in the event and the funds raised will go toward equipment for the Rehabilitation Center at Hadassah, Mt. Scopus.  The Nachama Chapter in Jerusalem and the Levonah Chapter in Modiin organized the event.

About 100 participants gathered at the amphitheater in the park to walk around the lake.  Among them were Nira Greenstein, President of Hadassah-Israel, Ellen Hershkin, President of HWZOA who was visiting Israel for the 70th anniversary celebration, and Dr. Isabella Schwartz, head of the Rehabilitation Center.

The facility, built in the about 50 years ago is old, tired and cramped, but the staff is described by Dr. Schwartz as remarkable people who heal with “their hearts and souls”.  The rehabilitation center does have state of the art technology, but needs more basic equipment.

This year, Hadassah-Israel has committed to raising funds which will be used to buy devices requested by the staff to give patients more independence. These include electric beds; wheel chairs to move patients, as well as those used for showering residents; cranes to lift badly injured, seat belts for wheel chairs, bladder scanning machines, blood pressure monitors … the list goes on and on.

Hadassah-Israel will make every effort to support the Rehabilitation Center and thus assist in the rehabilitation of IDF casualties, terror victims and other Israeli citizens treated there.
